Obituary of Rosemary Louise Goble
Goble (nee Learn), Rosemary Louise
It is with great sadness the family of Rosemary Louise Goble announces her passing on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 after a six month battle with cancer. Rosemary was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished nana. She was dedicated to her many passions which included handicrafts, scrapbooking, card making, genealogy and researching her own family’s origins.
Born October 4th, 1944 in St. Thomas, Ontario to Morley and Marion Learn, she lived her entire life within the confines of Elgin County staying true to her roots. She is survived by her three sons Mike (Dawn), Shawn (Laurie), and Darren (Amanda) as well as seven grandchildren who had the privilege and joy of having Rosemary as their Nana. She was predeceased by her husband Dave of 56 years in October of 2020. Her extended family included her sister Marilyn (Ron), brother Gord (Norma), and brother and sister in laws Linda (Carlyle), Don (Marilyn), Ted (Lynda), and Elaine (Denis) in addition to many nieces and nephews – all of whom were loved by their Aunt Rosemary.
Rosemary believed in the importance of volunteer work, and service to her church, serving on various committees and boards at both the local and regional levels. She was recognized as a Community Volunteer with 20 years of service for her involvement in the care of seniors at local nursing homes. She was active for many years in the Mapleton Church of Christ Disciples and the St. Thomas Christian Church where she served as secretary and treasurer in addition to her dedicated ‘behind the scenes’ support of husband Dave in his various leadership roles within these organizations.
Those wishing to make memorial donations in Rosemary’s honour may do so to Sakura House Hospice – Woodstock (www.vonsakurahouse.com), whose compassionate and professional care of mom in her final weeks allowed her to complete her journey with dignity and grace. Alternatively memorial donations could be made to the new Elgin County Hospice (www.elginhospice.com) scheduled to open in 2023.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 2, 2021. Should you wish, the family would appreciate the opportunity to greet you at a ‘drive-thru visitation’ at St. Thomas Christian Church, 451 Wellington Street, St. Thomas from 3:00 – 4:30pm. Those wishing to participate are reminded they must remain in their vehicles due to COVID requirements.
