Obituary of William Luke Iazzani
IAZZANI - William Luke, age 92, of St. Thomas, Ontario passed away peacefully with wife Ellen and his daughters by his side at St Thomas – Elgin General Hospital on Thursday February 2, 2023. Bill is survived by his wife Ellen, his children Belinda (Ken) Suddaby and Shelly (Martin) Harrington; grandchildren William and Harley Wittig, Blair (Jon) Casciato, Audrey and Mary Harrington; great grandchildren Madilyn, Liv and Arlo. Predeceased by his daughter Wendy (2006), his parents Velino and Angelina Iazzani, seven sisters, and one brother. Born in Fort William, Ontario on January 26, 1931; married to Ellen Simpson on November 8, 1952. Bill was a skilled and proud Crane Operator who provided for his family while working at Great Lakes Paper, Port Arthur Shipyards and GC Rentals in Thunder Bay. He had roots in Thunder Bay and St. Thomas, with many happy winters spent in Florida. Bill could build a shed from scrap lumber, or landscape a beautiful garden (keep off the grass!). His belt buckles were shiny, and his meatballs legendary. A meal wasn’t finished until he’d had dessert. He kept in shape by riding his bike around the neighbourhood, and exercising in his homemade garage gym. He enjoyed hockey, casinos, and his cats named Suzy. He loved square dancing with Ellen, and kitchen dancing with his great granddaughters. He loved life and cherished his family most of all. Arrangements entrusted to Simplicity Cremation, 750 Talbot Street, St Thomas, ON (226-210-1086). A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Thunder Bay. If desired, donations to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. Personal condolences to the family can be made at www.simplicity-cremation.ca
The Family wishes to thank all the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Thomas – Elgin General Hospital, 4th floor Acute Medical Unit and Palliative care. Their kind and compassionate care gave us peace and comfort.
