Obituary of Gerry Memering

Peacefully, at Babcock Community Care Centre, on Sunday, May 29, 2016, Gerhard “Gerry” Memering passed away at the age of 87. Beloved husband for 64 years to Elisabeth Memering. Loving Papa of Werner (Vera) Memering and Linda (Brian) Long. Proud Opa of Erin (Eric) Hochban, Dale (Tenley) Memering, Jennifer and Ryan Long. Loving great grandfather to Palmer Hochban. Gerry was the second oldest of seven siblings and is survived by two brothers Willi and Heini and three sisters in law. Predeceased by two brothers Johann and Hermann and by two sisters Tini and Burga. Gerry came to Canada in 1957 and farmed in several locations before purchasing his own farm in the Rodney area. A successful tobacco and cash crop farmer, he gave back to the community as a tobacco marketing board committee member, Knights of Columbus member and part of the local German Club. Gerry enjoyed many celebrations with German and Canadian friends. Family, friends and fishing filled his retirement years. Gerry’s family wishes to express their utmost thanks to Babcock Community Care staff for their care, concern and friendship over the past four years. In keeping with Gerry’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received at DENNING’S OF RODNEY, 212 Furnival Road, Rodney (519-785-0810), on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. where the Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. Donations in memory of Gerry may be made to Babcock Community Care Centre or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
