Obituary of David Grant Goble
Goble, David Grant
It is with great sadness that the family of David Grant Goble announces his passing on Tuesday October 6, 2020 after a lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Dave was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished papa. He was a man of strong moral character, respected by those he surrounded himself with, and was much loved by those fortunate enough to share in his life’s journey.
Born November 6th, 1942 in Avon Ontario to Grant and Beatrice Goble, he never forgot his rural roots remaining true to family and friends throughout his 77 years. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Rosemary, and their three sons Mike (Dawn), Shawn (Laurie), and Darren (Amanda) as well as 7 grandchildren who had the privilege and joy of having Dave as their Papa. His extended family also includes his sisters Linda and Elaine, brothers Don and Ted, brother and sister-in-laws Gord and Marilyn, and their spouses in addition to many nieces and nephews – all of whom were cherished by their Uncle Dave.
Dave believed in the importance of giving back to those in his community as evidenced by 35 years of service with the I.O.O.F Victory 465 Belmont Lodge. He was also recognized as a Community Volunteer with 20 years of service for his involvement in the care of seniors at local nursing homes. He was active for many years in the Mapleton Church of Christ Disciples and the St. Thomas Christian Church serving a number of roles such as Deacon, Board Member, Sunday School Superintendent, and most importantly friend to all.
Those wishing to make memorial donations in Dave’s honour may do so to the Alzheimer’s Society – St. Thomas Elgin (www.alzheimer.ca/elgin), who offered positive and much appreciated support of Dave throughout his Dementia journey. The family also wishes to recognize the care and compassion of Wendy from the Alzheimer’s Society, the staff of Elgin Manor, Jeff from the VON, and Paula & Staff from the Adult Day Program all of whose kindness were so appreciated.
A private family Celebration of Life will be held on the morning of Saturday October 10. Later Saturday, the family would appreciate the opportunity to greet you at a ‘Drive-thru visitation’ at St. Thomas Christian Church, 451 Wellington Street, St. Thomas from 1:30 – 3:00pm. Those wishing to participate are reminded they must remain in their vehicles due to COVID requirements.
